Dark Souls' From Software Has Worked With Expanse Co-Creator
It's not a science-fiction Dark Souls, but it is something.
One of the next big things on television has been SyFy's The Expanse, an epic involving a fully colonized Solar System and a potential war between Earth and Mars. The show is based on a series of novels by James S.A. Corey, a pen name for the writing duo of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. In an interview with Glixel, Franck drops the news that he has worked with Dark Souls developer From Software on... something.
"Yeah, I actually have done some work with From Software so... I'm, like, writing stuff for them, so I'm pretty familiar with the Dark Souls franchise," said Franck when asked about the Dark Souls franchise.
He also said that the work is already done and guaranteed that it's not something like "Space Souls".
"I've done that in the past. It's all under NDA and stuff, but, yeah," he added.
As a science fiction writer and fan, Franck also relayed his disappointment over Mass Effect 3. In particular, the ending, which turned off many fans of the series.
"It really felt like there was a fantastic ending that I had been promised, and then when I got to it... You know what? The ending of Mass Effect for me was like the ending of Lost, where [you] became aware that they really didn't know where they were going the whole time and they'd kind of just been making things up," said Franck.
"I'm a big fan of endings. When we hit book nine of The Expanse, that will be the last book – and we've known the ending from the beginning. That's because I like endings. I think great media, great art, whatever, is all about the edges of the canvas, and anything that you try to string on too long gets a little threadbare. I also think that because of that – because endings are so important – you better know what your ending is and you better be setting that ending up right from the beginning. Otherwise it just feels muddy and unsatisfying."
The Expanse Season 2 is currently airing on Syfy, with . The last Expanse novel is Babylon's Ashes, which was published on December 6, 2016 and is book six in a nine-book series.
