Some April Fools gags are just that: gaffes meant to poke some fun at how ridiculous a notion it would be to have, say, Bloodborne Kart or Detroit: Become Human Tennis. Red Hook Studios' April Fools' Day meme was, however, actually real.
On April 1, Red Hook Studios posted a meme image, purporting to be a sneak peek of some upcoming DLC for its game Darkest Dungeon. With a strong "graphic design is my passion" aesthetic, the image advertised arena fights and hero vs. hero combat.
Twitter users dismissed it as a joke because it was April 1, but yesterday Red Hook confirmed it was real. The Butcher's Circus is a PvP arena battle DLC coming to Darkest Dungeon in May, with a Steam store page and everything.

The Circus will let players fight in four-on-four combat inside Darkest Dungeon, though thankfully without risking any campaign heroes. New trinkets are being introduced for the competition, as well as a new theme and a customizable banner.
Darkest Dungeon is a brutal, punishing roguelike that nonetheless captivated us enough to make both our list of current best Steam games and nab a spot on the top 100 games of the decade. I'm not sure how well the best parts of Darkest Dungeon, like a treasured adventurer going mad in the middle of an expedition because he thought about an old god, would translate to PvP combat. But I'm open to trying it out.
