Dave Bautista Wants to Play Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War Movie

Actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista has apparently been pursuing the Marcus Fenix part for years.

In a Q&A session with GameSpot to promote his upcoming film Hotel Artemis, actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista reaffirmed his commitment to playing Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie. He is very keen to play the video game action hero.

"I've been pursuing Gears of War for YEARS now... Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role," Bautista answered when a twitter viewer to the Q&A asked if he'd be interested in playing longtime Gears of War protagonist Marcus Fenix in a movie. The actor is currently playing Drax as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and recently appeared in Blade Runner 2049.

The Gears of War movie was originally revealed by Microsoft as being in the works over at Universal Studios in 2016. Ever since then, the only news of the film that we've had is that Shane Salerno was tapped to write the script for the film. Salerno's other credits include writing for the multiple Avatar sequels, which are still in production.

Bautista seems to have got the stamp of approval from the former Gears of War director Cliff Bleszinski, but casting is obviously entirely up to the executives over at Universal Studios.

As for the Gears of War games, Gears of War 4 was released back in October 2016, in which Marcus Fenix's son J.D. took over as protagonist. We're still waiting to hear on the status of Gears of War 5, but E3 2018 rumors have been doing the rounds, with speculation that a new entry in the Gears of War franchise could be on the horizon.
