One of my oldest friends dresses like Delsin from Infamous Second Son. Not on purpose, just in his signature tugged down beanie, bedazzled denim vest, and hoodie. At any convention I've ever gone to, it's easily the most popular cosplay among young men too: because it's how most of them already dress. But with Sony's upcoming open-world zombie game Days Gone, maybe that will finally change.
Enter Deacon St. John, the biker caught in the post-apocalypse with his trusty motorcycle and a bandana to keep his sweat at bay. Deacon dresses like a lot of dudes you might find loitering at dive bars, and the look is intentional. Perhaps that's why Days Gone's newest marketing partnership, with the brand Diesel, feels at once totally on-brand but also ghoulishly off-brand (at least when you look at the prices).
Diesel has a new capsule collection based on the wear and tear of Days Gone, featuring t-shirts, jackets, and hats. Even though the Diesel Twitter account tweeted out a link, the collection isn't live on the U.S. store yet, but you can find all the rugged clothes on the U.K. end of Diesel. Try not to have a heart attack, die, and turn into a zombie when you see the prices though.
It's an expensive collection. A black denim jacket with minimal patches rests at a steep 220 (~$285.74 USD), while a fully decked out denim vest similar to what Deacon wears in Days Gone 790 (~$1026.05 USD). Yowch! The t-shirts and baseball cap are also pricey, ranging from 45-50 (~$58.45-$64.94 USD). The Days Gone x Diesel collection is definitely not for folks like me who browse the clearance section at Levi's when they're in the mood to splurge on denim.
While it's pricey and maybe a bit too garish for the actual style you'll see in Days Gone proper, it's not the most baffling fashion collection (that honor will forever go to H&M's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo collection, because nothing says a woman who gets revenge on rapists and abusers like… fast fashion!).
To get a sneak peek at the collection (and play Days Gone before it launches exclusively on PlayStation 4 on April 26), select Diesel stores will be hosting demos of Days Gone starting on April 19. Stay tuned for our own review and future coverage of Sony's next big exclusive, and in the meantime, check out our interview with Days Gone's creative director from earlier this year.
