Dead Cells Gets a Sick Animated Trailer for Today's Bad Seed DLC

Carry on my fungal son.

Dead Cells is getting some more dangerous areas to explore and die in, and to best illustrate this, Motion Twin has released an animated trailer for it. Dubbed "The Bad Seed," this swampy area looks like it'll be full of enemies that can dish out your death-even if the trailer tugs at the heartstrings a bit.

In the tradition of past launches, The Bad Seed's trailer highlights the new area and enemies coming in today's DLC launch. And like most runs of Dead Cells, it ends with the extremely comical death of the player character.

As much as I'm rooting for the character I play in Dead Cells, I'm glad the little spore in the trailer got away safe. There's even a happy ending! Who knew a Dead Cells trailer would actually get me a little emotional this morning? This is the third trailer that studio BobbyProd has put together for Dead Cells.

Today's DLC drop is The Bad Seed, which adds new biomes in The Arboretum and The Swamp, as well as plenty of spore-infused fungal enemies. (Yuck.) While this update adds optional routes with its new areas, it won't affect the critical path of Dead Cells, so you can still reach the finale or die trying all the same.

Dead Cells was a seemingly overnight success in 2018, as a roguelike that managed to stand out from the pack with its weapons, combat, platforming, and style. We enjoyed it enough to find a spot for it on a hotly contested games of the decade list, and today's Bad Seed seems like a pretty good excuse to jump back in.

Dead Cells' The Bad Seed is live now for $4.99 on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
