The next DLC drop for Dead Cells is going green. Developer Motion Twin revealed the new content today, titled The Bad Seed, which will add two new early-game biomes, a new boss, and lots of lil' shroomy baddies to fight.
The two new areas, dubbed The Arboretum and The Swamp, look to feature much more greenery than you might be used to early on in Dead Cells. Rather than cell blocks and castle ramparts, The Bad Seed explores lush vegetation and the evil creatures that dwell within, probably toting blow darts and other poisonous abilities.
With two DLC packs under its belt now, Dead Cells has been thriving since its launch. The side-scrolling roguelike sold well across multiple platforms, and now, Motion Twin is working on whatever the next project might be.
In its Steam blog for the announcement, Motion Twin mentions that it has two more years' worth of content for Dead Cells, but the studio is also outlining what its next project will be. A few concepts at the bottom of the blog tease a little about what Motion Twin is considering, which seems futuristic rather than Dead Cells' dark, twisted fantasy. There are spaceships, cities in the clouds, and lots of metal. It's pretty rad.
Evil Empire, the spinoff studio from Motion Twin, is also looking at making new additions to the Dead Cells universe while continuing to work on the base game. I'm not sure how expanded the lore can get from here, but given how fascinating the base game is, it's worth a shot.
