Dead Rising 4 Getting Fan Requested Improvements Ahead of PS4 Release

Capcom Vancouver is looking into fan feedback for Dead Rising 4.

Dead Rising 4 underperformed Capcom expectations in its original Xbox One and PC release. The game is being released on PlayStation 4 for the first time later this year as Dead Rising 4: Frank's Big Package. As a part of that release Capcom Vancouver has gone back to the original game to make improvements based on fan feedback. They added two additional difficulty levels a month out from launch, but these new changes are more far reaching.

The first major change will be to the game's Maniacs, who were mid-boss style encounters with human survivors in Willamette. Fans complained that the Maniacs weren't as memorable as they were in previous games and the fights were pretty straightforward and dumb.

"Maniacs will have new weapons that suit their character and Frank's reward for defeating a Maniac will be wielding the new weapon. The AI that drives the Maniacs is also being improved to provide players with an even greater challenge.," wrote Dead Rising community manager Jeffrey Simpson on the Capcom Unity blog.

"Some of the Maniacs will also have new Maniac Minions who will attack Frank, making these fights more difficult. Human enemy AI is being improved for all types, making them better at using cover, blocking attacks with shields, and countering players who might rely on a single attack."

Capcom is adding six side missions called Distress Calls. These scripted side missions will have Frank complete an objective for a survivor and then escort them to a safe location, like some of the earlier Dead Rising titles. Finishing these missions will offer special outfits for Frank.

Capcom also made a host of smaller changes to Dead Rising 4, including "improved controller responsiveness, faster attack speed, faster zombie horde awareness, more aggressive pursuit, rebalanced weapon distribution, improved zombie AI, mission tuning," and more.

"It's an update that's not only going to give you something new to play in Dead Rising 4, but will also improve your experience playing it," said Simpson.

All Dead Rising 4 owners will receive these gameplay additions for free, alongside the new Capcom Heroes game mode. Dead Rising 4: Frank's Big Package will be coming to PlayStation 4 on December 5, 2017.
