Deadly Premonition Creator Launches New Indie Studio

SWERY is back at it with his new studio, White Owls.

Hidetaka Suehiro, known to his fans as SWERY, announced the formation of a brand new studio, White Owls. Suehiro was previously at Access Games, where he worked on D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. He took a break from Access Games in November 2015 to recover from his bout with reactive hypoglycemia, only to leave the studio nearly a year later. White Owls was established in Osaka in November 1, 2016, a year after the beginning of his break.

Yep, that's SWERY.

The White Owls website is very SWERY.

"Our slogan is 'From Osaka to all of you around the World,' and we're working day and night to create completely unique things that no one's ever seen before," said Suehiro in his first message to fans as White Owls president and CEO.

"Deep meaning exists in the name 'White Owls.' In Ancient Greece, owls were called sages of the forest, and thought to be servants of Athena (Minerva), the goddess of wisdom," he added. "Their eyes can pierce the darkness, and their ears can hear sound in 3D. Their wings allow them to silently catch their prey, and their powerful claws can effortlessly tear through even the toughest of bodies. There is also an Albino species of owl clad in sheer white fur which possesses an especially mystical quality."

"We at White Owls hope to keep growing until we can someday evolve into a similar type of mystical entity."

Suehiro founded Access Games back in 2002. Since then, he has directed or designed Spy Fiction, Lord of Arcana, Deadly Premonition, and D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. D4 was intended as an episodic game and there's little word on what will happen to that title.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
