Try the Long-Delayed Star Citizen for Free This Weekend

Play the latest Alpha build for free.

There's a lot of drama surrounding Star Citizen, from lawsuits to delays, but if you're interested in checking out what the hubbub is all about you can try the latest Star Citizen Alpha this weekend for free.

At Gamescom, Star Citizen announced the Free Fly weekend which will let anyone play the newest Alpha 3.2 version of Star Citizen starting today August 24 until Monday August 27. The Alpha includes the first-person shooter Star Marine and space dogfight mode Arena Commander.

To sign up for the Free Fly you'll have to create an account at the Star Citizen website, use the code GETINTOTHEVERSE when asked and then you'll have the option to check into the Free Fly weekend program.

Star Citizen's many starter packs and bundles are also discounted, so you can pick up a version of the game after the free weekend is over.

Star Citizen has faced some criticism in the past however for its long-delayed release, changed development, and dropped features. One early backer who spent thousands of dollars on the game even tried to sue the Star Citizen studio after a failed refund.

But if that doesn't phase you, feel free to check out Star Citizen this weekend and its promised, expansive space sim universe.
