Bungie has today revealed the big new expansion coming later this year for Destiny 2. Beyond Light will see our Guardians travelling to Europa, uncovering a mysterious new threat from pyramid-like ships in the process.
Beyond Light releases for Destiny 2 on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on September 22, and will be available on next-gen consoles at a later date. When it launches, we'll be traveling to the frozen tundras of Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, and encountering an all-new threat that's arrived from the strange pyramidic ship hovering above the moon itself.
The expansion will also feature a new class for Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks to master: Stasis. Bolted on alongside Arc, Solar, and Void, the new class type will give brand new abilities to all three playable classes. Lore-wise, it's a way for Guardians to wield the Darkness as weapon, alongside the Light. There's also a brand new Raid on Europa. The Deep Stone Crypt sees our Guardians venturing into a long-dormand crypt to tackle a dark threat, which boasts the standard Raid Fireteam of six players.
Today though, the Season of Arrivals will be launching in Destiny 2. Headlining the new season is the new Prophecy Dungeon, where players can obtain both a DAITO Foundry armor set as well as a reprised Trials of the Nine armor set.
When Season of Arrivals launches, it'll introduce a new pyramid ship hovering above Io. Guardians will be able to team up on Io to thwart the new threat posed by the summoned enemies beneath the ship itself. It sounds like this activity in particular is building towards the new threat in Beyond Light in September.
Bungie also announced that if you purchase the expansion on either console platform, you'll automatically get a free upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X version of Destiny 2: Beyond Light at an unspecified later date. Bungie is also introducing crossplay between generations, so no worries about breaking up the friends list. That said, if you started on Xbox One, you'll only be able to go to Xbox Series X. No jumping over to PS5.
Finally, while Bungie laid out its plans for Beyond Light, it also looked ahead to the years futher out from here. It annnounced two new expansions, The Witch Queen and Lightfall, currently scheduled for 2021 and 2022 respectively. It also announced that older, lesser-played content would be "vaulted," to make space for all the incoming Destiny content. Old content will also make a return, with the infamous Vault of Glass raid being teased during the stream.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light launches on September 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
