Whatever's next for Destiny 2 is close at hand. Bungie posted and quickly deleted a short teaser video today, with an unveiling supposedly set for June 9.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, we can see Destiny quest-giver and resident goth Eris Morn trekking through a windy, frozen tundra. As she presses forward, she looks up to glimpse something. It does look like Guardians will be headed to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons.
Whatever actually happens, we'll learn soon enough. The video went up on Instagram and was taken down, though fans have still been able to access it via direct link. It's unclear whether this indicates it was posted too early, or whether the date might be in flux, as other companies have delayed streams over the coming week in response to ongoing U.S. protests over police brutality.
Since the launch of Destiny 2's Shadowkeep expansion, Bungie has been building up what will be next for the universe. The ending of the campaign had some major implications for what may come, but most of the activities since have centered around events like the Guardian Games.
Since Bungie became an independent entity, it's made some big changes to Destiny 2. Beyond making the base game free to play and reworking the new player experience, the studio has already announced that Destiny 2 will make the leap to next-gen consoles.
With one full expansion under it, Bungie is now charting the course ahead for what it envisions Destiny 2 will be as it enters a new console generation. All we know for certain is that it will involve Eris, the freezing cold, and knowing that combination of elements, likely something scary and ancient.
