Destiny 2 Players Are Locked Out of Some Endgame Content if They Don't Buy the Curse of Osiris DLC

Once again, the newest Destiny expansion will lock some existing endgame content.

News by Matt Kim, .

If you're new to Destiny 2 then you might surprised to learn that since the launch of the Curse of Osiris expansion, you're now locked out of some high-level activities if you're playing without the new DLC.

That's because the Curse of Osiris expansion raises the level cap for Destiny 2 characters. Likewise, the endgame level and Power Level requirements have also been raised for activities like the raid and Nightfall Strike. At least for their more exciting Prestige variants. Both have been raised to a 330 recommended Power Level.

So if you're playing on Destiny 2 without the expansion, you're stuck at 305 Power Level and left out in the cold from the nice 330 endgame content.

In addition, you'll also need the DLC to access the heroic strike playlist, which returns to Destiny 2 as part of the DLC. It doesn't matter that the recommended Power Level for the strike playlist is 270.

This isn't the first time Bungie has done this with Destiny. The Dark Below expansion from the first Destiny did much of the same thing.

Still, players are quite mad that this is still happening. Some users on Reddit are even accusing Bungie of releasing a subscription pass rather than an expansion. It doesn't help that not owning the newest expansion also locks you out of achieving the Platinum trophy on the PS4 as certain trophies and Xbox One achievements are also locked behind the new expansion.

Bungie hasn't commented yet on the community's response, but we will update the story as it develops.

    This is utterly vile.

On PC, this game hasn't even been out two months. That there's already a paid expansion is gross enough in itself; that content that was in the vanilla version has now been retroactively locked behind a second paywall is disgusting on a level that I'm having trouble wrapping my head around.
