Destiny 2 Shadowkeep's First Trailer Shows a Return to the Moon and an Old Friend

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep's First Trailer Shows a Return to the Moon and an Old Friend

We're going to the dark side of the moon.

During today's Google Stadia livestream, Bungie revealed the first trailer for its next expansion, Shadowkeep. It's a brief, but haunting, trailer that sets the tone for the next big Destiny 2 adventure.

As per a leak earlier this week, the next Destiny 2 expansion is titled Shadowkeep. It will bring Destiny 2 players back to the moon, a location that hasn't been visited since the first Destiny game. And on the moon is our old friend Eris Morn, who is gearing up to take on a new force of evil.

According to leaked details, Shadowkeep is a standalone expansion where players venture into a haunted moon taken over by a new faction of the Hive. But the trailer makes it look like it's actually a fight against The Taken. We'll likely find out more later today when Shadowkeep is fully revealed during Bungie's own Destiny 2 livestream.

Eris Morn was a major NPC in the first Destiny but has only been mentioned in Destiny 2. Shadowkeep will be her first full appearance in the series since Destiny 1. Though she has an inclination to be dramatic, her prophecies about the darkness are usually to be taken seriously.

With Morn back and the trailer's atmosphere so dark, we can expect Shadowkeep to be a more horror-like experience compared to previous expansions like Forsaken. We'll hopefully learn more about Shadowkeep, as well as Bungie's rumored free-to-play and cross-save plans later today during the Bungie livestream.
