Devil May Cry 5's Cutscenes Can Be Replaced With a Live-Action Alternative

It's only available in the Devil May Cry 5 Deluxe Edition.

Devil May Cry 5 is out in a few short days, and Capcom has just announced a new bonus for customers who pre-order the Deluxe Edition. If you decide to cough up a little extra dough, you'll get the option to switch out Devil May Cry 5's nice, pre-rendered cutscenes with live-action "pre-viz" rehearsal footage.

What this means is that instead of the animated cutscenes, you'll have the option to see the same scenes as acted out by real-life actors and choreographers who use props and costumes to rehearse what the final scene would look like animated. Think of it as a DIY rough draft of the final cutscene.

Frankly, it's a crazy special feature, one that I've never seen before in any other video game. Pre-visualization is an important step during video game and animation development, but this is the first time I've seen a video game offer to replace the final animated product with the pre-viz.

Unfortunately, it's a feature limited to the Deluxe Edition. Hopefully standard edition owners can purchase the pre-viz cutscenes in the future. But until then, you can see what it looks like in the reveal trailer above. The scene where they used the model cars and action figures to coordinate the acrobatic tricks is a particular highlight.

Devil May Cry 5 comes out on March 8. You can check out our Devil May Cry 5 guide for our complete coverage, including trailers, previews, and more.
