Blizzard has kicked off BlizzCon 2019 with an official announcement for Diablo 4.
The cinematic reveal trailer follows a group of harried, hapless treasure hunters who find themselves lost in the halls of some ancient ruins. "All the gold we want is right there," says one of the nameless fellows who clearly doesn't know what he's in for.
Things start off looking bad for the four explorers and only go downhill from there. There's no gold in sight. The trailer closes with a haunting, bloody summoning ritual for the succubus Queen Lilith.
On stage at BlizzCon, game director Luis Barriga promised a return to the series' dark roots. "Diablo 4 is dark. You saw the cinematic so you know exactly what I'm talking about," says Barriga. "It'll mean blood and gore, it'll mean occult symbols and rituals. More importantly, it'll mean victories are never clean or guaranteed." Barriga confirmed that Diablo 4 will feature PVP zones.
Barriga described Diablo 4 as an isometric action RPG and confirmed that it will come to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
