Diablo III for Xbox One Developed "Simultaneously" With PS4 Version

Blizzard is working on an Xbox One version of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition has already been announced for PlayStation 4, featuring all of the content and updates coming to the PC title with the Reaper of Souls expansion. Ultimate Evil doesn't have a firm release date yet, but Xbox One owners have been wondering if they're getting the title as well. According to Diablo III lead producer Alex Mayberry, the Xbox One version is in development, but Blizzard has yet to work out its release with Microsoft.

"I don't know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can't really comment on what that contract looks like," Mayberry told Videogamer. "The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run."

The situation is a repeat of what happened with the console versions of vanilla Diablo III: it was originally announced only for PlayStation 3, but ended up launching simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 360.

"We have that pipeline worked out," added Mayberry. "We've already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That's just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out."

He also said that Ultimate Evil Edition's release is "not far off". If you're not willing to wait, the Reaper of Souls expansion is releasing tomorrow, March 25, 2014, on PC and Mac.
