Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade Revealed For 2018 PS4 Release

The Final Fantasy fighter comes to the system that powers the arcade version.

Back in 2015, Square Enix announced Dissidia Final Fantasy for arcades, the newest title in the fighting series that began with Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy on the PlayStation Portable. The newest iteration is developed by Team Ninja, with the arcade cabinet using PlayStation 4 technology as its core. Fans expected a PlayStation 4 version rather quickly, but it's two years later and here we are.

Today, Dissidia Final Fantasy for PlayStation 4 was revealed in a Japanese livestream and Amazon listing. The game's console release carries the name Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, with the "NT" standing for "New Tale", "New Trial", or "New Tournament", according to the livestream (translation via Gematsu). It's a direct port of the arcade game, with the same 3v3 combat and no story mode. PS4 players won't be able to challenge arcade fighters, which doesn't matter much for us in the West. The worldwide release will be coming in early 2018.

The Amazon listing touts "over 20" playable heroes.

The arcade cast that already includes:

  • Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy)
  • Garland (Final Fantasy)
  • Firion (Final Fantasy II)
  • The Emperor (Final Fantasy II)
  • Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III)
  • Cecil Harvey (Final Fantasy IV)
  • Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV)
  • Bartz Klauser (Final Fantasy V)
  • Exdeath (Final Fantasy V)
  • Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
  • Kefka Palazzo (Final Fantasy VI)
  • Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)
  • Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII)
  • Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)

  • Kuja (Final Fantasy IX)
  • Tidus (Final Fantasy X)
  • Shantotto (Final Fantasy XI Online)
  • Vaan (Final Fantasy XII)
  • Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)
  • Y'shtola (Final Fantasy XIV Online)
  • Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
