The Final Fantasy fighting game will get its last big update soon. Support for both the arcade version and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, on PS4 and PC, will be lowered to online services after its next major content patch.
The final update, due for February 20 in arcades and March 5 for PS4 and PC (via Gematsu), will include 3rd Form and 5th Weapon for Emperor Mateus and Cloud of Darkness.
As RPGsite reports, director Takeo Kujiraoka says there are "currently no plans" for a sequel to Dissidia Final Fantasy.
This recent entry in the Dissidia series was polarizing at launch, with a gorgeous look but not quite the same spark as other Dissidia games. The campaign, most notably, was lacking and it felt clunky at the time.
Still, it's grown over the years with a roster of just about every Final Fantasy fighter you can think of, from a Final Fantasy 7 Remake-inspired version of Tifa to a Noctis costume that reminded us that, yes, Versus 13 was a thing, once. It was a cool, interesting way to celebrate the many years and games of Final Fantasy, while also making those celebrated characters beat each other up like a Final Fantasy version of Super Smash Bros.
While those who want to keep playing online will still be able to for the foreseeable future, it's a shame this entry never quite got off the ground. Hopefully someone can come back to this concept down the line and deliver a Dissidia that sticks.
