Dota Underlords Will Try to Turn Around Its Fortunes in Leaving Early Access Next Month
As the competition surges, Valve decides now is the time to leave Early Access.
The heat on the autobattler genre has cooled a little, but it still has its fervent fans. Dota Underlords, Valve's shot at the genre, is certainly doing better than the company's take on the digital CCG genre, but it's still behind the pack. Today, Valve announced that Underlords is finally leaving Steam Early Access, with a full launch on February 25, 2020 for PC, iOS, and Android.
The studio also launched the final update for Underlords prior to launch, introducing a new Underlord. Enno, the scavenger king, is a highly mobile character that uses lassos and poison to control the battlefield. He's meant to fight at range, with two available builds. One build focuses on using his poison attacks to heal his allies, while his lasso can steal low-level items from foes. The second build attacks multiple enemies with his tools.
If you're reading up on Enno and wondering how Poison works in Underlords, well, it's a brand-new status effect. It deals physical damage over time and reduces healing, and can be stacked up to five times. With the new effect, the tier-one piece Venomancer now also applies Poison with his Venomous Gale ability. The Orb of Venom items also applies the effect.
Heading out of Early Access will also see the launch of the first proper season for Dota Underlords. Season 1 will introduce a new meta with some hero and item rotation, new content with City Crawl, and a full Battlepass with new rewards. Valve is going to offer more information on Season 1 in the near future. If you're jamming with Dota Underlords, you can read the official patch notes over on Steam.
Earlier this month, we noted that Dota Underlords has been slowly bleeding players from its community. Some of that might be a response to controversial choices like the Jail rotation for units, but it might also be because the auto chess fever has died down a bit.
