Dragon Quest 12 is in the Early Planning Stages, Developers Confirm

We're getting even more Dragon Quest, hopefully soon.

Dragon Quest 12 is moving ahead, at least according to series executive producer Yuu Miyake. There's no word on a release date, but development seems to be in its earliest planning stages.

During an event where Square Enix announced its new Dragon Quest Walk mobile game, executive producer Yuu Miyake revealed additional plans for the Dragon Quest series overall. There is the movie, Dragon Quest: Your Story coming out, Dragon Quest 11 S coming to the Switch, and Dragon Quest 12 is inching forward.

According to Twinfinite, Miyake revealed that he is speaking with series creator Yuji Horii about plans for Dragon Quest 12. It's not a lot to go on, but it's good to know that Square Enix is moving forward with the next entry in the legendary series so soon after Dragon Quest 11.

Now, this isn't to say Dragon Quest 12 is in development just yet. The statement makes it sound like Miyake and Horii are currently figuring out the setting for the next Dragon Quest. Miyake also sounds like he wants to announce Dragon Quest 12 officially soon, so hopefully the preparation stages moves along quickly.

Last year's Dragon Quest 11 was one of our favorite RPGs. Not only are its characters some of the best in the series, but we awarded Dragon Quest 11 a perfect score review calling it, "a good entry point for Dragon Quest-curious players."

In the meantime, Dragon Quest 11 S will be coming to the Switch this fall. It'll come with new features like the option to switch to 16-bit graphics.
