Dragon Quest Builders 2 Producer: "We're Working on a Game Different From Builders"

Could Square Enix be working on a new Dragon Quest spin-off?

Dragon Quest Builders 2 released last year to critical acclaim and praise from fans alike. Now, it appears a producer from the game has teased what we can expect from the developers a little further down the road.

"We're working on a game different from Dragon Quest Builders," said Dragon Quest Builders 2 producer Takuma Shiraishi in the latest issue of Japanese magazine V-Jump (as translated and published online by Gematsu). "Please wait a bit longer, or rather, just a little while longer until the announcement."

So it certainly seems like the Dragon Quest Builders 2 developers have a new game in development, but one that'll be different from the Builders spin-offs. It's anyone's guess as to what the next Dragon Quest spin-off game could be. A Dragon Quest strategy game, anyone?

In the same issue of V-Jump, producer Shiraishi also revealed Square Enix would be holding "[Dragon Quest Builders 2] photography contests in 2020 as well." He didn't elaborate on the particulars of the contest, but it sounds like Square Enix will be looking out for some impressive in-game photography later this year.

USGamer's Nadia Oxford adored Dragon Quest Builders 2, saying it fixed her biggest problems with the first game. In other Dragon Quest-related news, series creator Yuji Horii revealed earlier this month that production on Dragon Quest 12 had begun back in 2019.
