Dragon Quest Walk Announced, Beta Dates Detailed

Dragon Quest Walk looks to be riffing on the Pokemon Go formula.

Dragon Quest Walk has just been announced for mobile devices, but only for Japan as of right now. The AR game looks to be bringing the world of Dragon Quest to the streets of Japan, much like Niantic did with Pokemon Go did a few years ago.

According to a translation from the official website by Gematsu, you'll be meeting different in-game characters while embarking on quests in Dragon Quest Walk. You'll be able to upgrade equipment, battle against a litany of monsters, and take on some "formidable enemies".

As of right now, Dragon Quest Walk doesn't have a final release date in Japan. It does, however, have a limited beta, which will kick off for all players in Japan next week on June 11. You can head over to the official Dragon Quest Walk website to sign up right now.

However it appears as though Dragon Quest Walk may hold some significance for the unannounced Dragon Quest XII. "By the way, about Dragon Quest XII, which I'm sure is on everyone's mind--[Yuji] Horii and I are currently making preparations on series developments that will connect to XII," says series producer Yuu Miyake. "I think it's still too early, but we would like announce it in some form, so please wait a little while longer."

In other Dragon Quest-related news, the Dragon Quest XI port for the Switch, dubbed 'Dragon Quest XI S,' is still on track to release later this year. Dragon Quest Builders 2, the sequel to the hit spin-off game, is releasing for Nintendo Switch and PS4 next month in July.
