Dying Light Strategy Guide and Walkthrough

Survive night pursuits and boss fights to help Kyle Crane survive a post apocalyptic Harran.

Dying Light Mission 2 Walkthrough: First Assignment - Kill the Goon

The second mission of Dying Light will begin immediately following the first, and the initial objective is to pay Spike a visit and get a job. This will see Mr. Crane make his first trip out into the unpredictable streets of Harran that is now owned by the undead.

Follow the waypoint to the location of the first trap that needs to be armed, something that can most likely be done without having to mess with any zombies. Once complete, however, Crane will be diverted to help a trapped survivor. It's another short trip, but once on the scene there will be two lower level zombies that need to be taken care of. Bash them in the head and search their bodies for loot.

Hint: Dying Light factors in both Stamina and Fitness as game mechanics. Stamina refers to how much energy Kyle can expend in combat, while Fitness deals with free running endurance. Just because our hero is out of one doesn't mean he's out of the other. If he's tired of fighting he can always run away, or vice versa.

After clearing the area of the zombie threats, enter the small building and deal with one more, then follow the on-screen instructions to restore power to the Safe Zone. This is an essential skill to learn, as Safe Zones allow Crane to travel great distances from the Tower without having to worry about getting stuck outside in the dark. Unsecured Safe Zones will show up on the map as red house icons, while those that are ready to use show up green. Secure these at every opportunity.

With the Safe Zone now secured it's time for a chat with the GRE. Look for a waypoint that shows the location Mr. Crane needs to get to, then climb up to the roof and make the call to complete the objective.

Hint: Look for arrows next to waypoints that point either up or down. Up means the objective is higher, and down means that it's below the Crane's current position.

Following a status report with the GRE, take a look at the map to see the location of two more traps that need to be armed. Unfortunately, these ones are surrounded by Zombies, but that's nothing that some well placed Firecrackers can't take care of. Toss the distraction devices away from the cars, then sneak in and arm the traps when the zombies stumble away.

The next portion of the mission will be much more of the same, and this walkthrough isn't about telling players to take four steps forward and six to the right. Instead, keep a close eye on the objective on the right side of the screen, as well as the waypoint on the map in the corner. Use the rooftops to reach the waypoints, then continue to arm traps as instructed.

Hint: There is always a way to reach the objective, and this game really enjoys making players figure out the right path. Find a position that's safe, then spend a moment deciding how to get Crane in position to complete his current assignment. This applies to the entire game.

With all the traps armed there's only one major objective left to complete in this mission (a few minor tasks will follow, however), and that is to find the distribution center and fix the light problem. It's not a long trip, but upon arriving players will be introduced to a mid-level zombie adversary called a Goon. These guys can be dressed differently from one to another, but always carry a massive hammer. Either avoid them using Kyle's speed, or dodge their attacks and then counter when their off balance to score the kill and steal the hammer.

With Mr. Hammer down, restore the power, then search the building for materials that can be used in future crafting recipes. When players are satisfied that the place has been picked clean they can head out to the next waypoint, which happens to be the safe house that they secured in the early parts of this mission.

Once morning arrives, return to Spike to report Crane's success, then chat with the GRE to ensure they are kept in the loop. The mission finally ends after returning to the Tower and meeting the real leader, Brecken.
