Earthworm Jim Surprise Sequel Announced For Intellivision Console You've Never Heard Of

The original Earthworm Jim team is back for a new project.

It's been a very weird morning. Today, veteran composer and Intellivision president Tommy Tallarico revealed a major title for the Intellivision Amico. What's the Amico? It's a new console from Intellivision, announced back in October 2018. It's meant to bring the basic idea of the classic Intellivision consoles into the 21st century. The console is scheduled for launch on October 10, 2020.

Today on Twitter, Tallarico showed off concept art for a new Earthworm Jim game. The game comes as a celebration of the game's 25th anniversary.

"We have been talking about this moment for many years, it's a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together. We're looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world," says Tallarico, who was the original composer on Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, in the press release. "Intellivision Amico is designed to bring friends and families together and we are excited for fans and those just being introduced to the series to get a first look as we kick-off the design of the game."

That original team includes David Perry, Tommy Tallarico, Nick Bruty, Mike Dietz, Tom Tanaka, Joey Kuras, and Doug TenNapel. The latter name is rather notable as not only did TenNapel create and design Earthworm Jim and his cast, but he has also controversially made many anti-LGBTQ comments over the years. These include strong stances against gay marriage and gay rights, and several transphobic comments. TenNapel's involvement does make it difficult for some to support the idea of a new Earthworm Jim, similar to the way it was difficult to support his Kickstarter for Armikrog back in 2013.

TenNapel, alongside the rest of the original team, will be livestreaming on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 12 p.m. PT. This will be a part of the first design meeting for the new project.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
