Elder Scrolls Online Heads to Skyrim For Its Next Expansion

The home of the Nord is the next focus for Elder Scrolls Online.

While other MMOs release their major expansions every two years, The Elder Scrolls Online drums up an all-new Chapter every year. 2017 saw the series returning to Morrowind, the bright isle of Summerset hit in 2018, and this year players journeyed to the home of the Khajit in Elsweyr. Tonight at The Game Awards 2019, Zenimax Online revealed the next step in the Elder Scrolls Online.

Following the end of the Season of the Dragon adventure, the Elder Scrolls Online will be turning its gaze towards Skyrim. In the final Season of the Dragon cinematic, players are invited to "Explore the Dark Heart of Skyrim." In addition, there will be another year-long adventure coming alongside the expansion, fleshing out that story over 2020.

This is only a tease of the next expansion though. Zenimax Online will be revealing more about ESO's Skyrim journey on January 16, 2020. The full reveal will take place at the HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas at 2 p.m. PT. Players can also catch the reveal on Bethesda's Twitch channel.

Following the One Tamriel update, the Elder Scrolls Online changed itself from a traditional MMO leveling experience to one you can jump into at any time. Since then, it's released three excellent expansions. You can check out our reviews of the expansions right here—Morrowind, Summerset, and Elsweyr—and see if you're interested in what ESO has to offer. And remember, it has a subscription-free tier, so all you need to do is buy Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr to enjoy all the major story expansions.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
