Etrian Odyssey Nexus, the final Etrian Odyssey game for the Nintendo 3DS, is coming west next year on February 5, 2019. A sad farewell to a series that had one of the best uses for the 3DS' dual-screens.
Etrian Odyssey Nexus is a traditional dungeon-crawler where players under a royal decree from Princess Persephone must recruit allies and explore the archipelago of Lemuria and the Yggdrasil Tree. A new "Hero" class of characters will be introduced in Nexus.
The long-time developers of the Etrian Odyssey games including character designer Yuji Himukai, monster designer Shin Nagasawa, and composer Yuzo Koshiro all return for Nexus. Atlus is promising over a 100 story quests, callbacks to past Etrian Odyssey games, and optional auto-mapping for the definitive Etrian Odyssey experience.
Etrian Odyssey games are what some would call hardcore dungeon-crawlers famous for its difficulty and a mapping mechanic where players draw their own map in the lower second screen of the DS. You can read our breakdown of last year's Etrian Odyssey 5, the best hardcore RPG you're missing out on.
You can pre-order Etrian Odyssey Nexus at select retailers right now through the official Etrian Odyssey website.
