Even Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Devs Were Surprised by Jessie's Popularity

Being very horny on main does have its perks.

When Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched earlier this year, Jessie had a noticeably bigger presence in the remake than she did in the original game. Fast forward a few months, and it turns out she's one of the more popular characters in the remake altogether.

Famitsu published a huge 15-page interview with some of the key developers behind Final Fantasy 7 Remake earlier this week, including director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase (the majority of which has been translated on Twitter by regular Famitsu translator @aitaikimochi). When asked about Jessie's popularity among players, Nomura said that although her extended screen time was "planned from the beginning," he "did not expect her to be this popular."

Additionally, Famitsu ran a poll to gauge the most popular character of Final Fantasy 7 Remake from its readers. There's no surprise at Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith taking first, second, and third spots respectively, but Jessie came in at the fourth most popular character, beating out the likes of Barret, Sephiroth, Red XIII, Reno, and more.

Finally, one of the more popular scenes in the game overall was Jessie winking at Cloud. Writing in about the scene, one fan said "I just can't keep Jessie out my head [after seeing this scene.]" Being outrageously flirty does have its perks, I suppose. If you want to read more about how Jessie found new life in the Remake, check out our interview with Erica Lindebck, the voice actress behind North America's version of the character.

Elsewhere, producer Kitase confirmed that part two of Final Fantasy 7 Remake has entered full production. The producer had a pretty mysterious comment about the story of the remake going forward though, saying that "the new story of Final Fantasy 7 has only just begun." Make of that what you will.
