EVO 2017's Main Line-Up Includes SF5, Tekken 7, and Two Smash Bros

The organizers of the fighting game tournament have announced the title cards and a way for one more game to end up on the list.

On the official RedBull eSports Twitch channel, the organizers of the Evolution Championship Series announced the main lineup for Evo 2017, taking place July 14-16, 2017 in Las Vegas. The full lineup will eventually include 9 games, but only 8 of them are guaranteed slots already.

That list includes:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Tekken 7
  • Super Smash Bros for Wii U
  • Super Smash Bros Melee
  • Injustice 2
  • Blazblue: Central Fiction
  • Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
  • King of Fighters XIV

The ninth slot in the main lineup will be determined by the fighting game community itself. A total of 9 games are a part of the Evo 2017 Player's Choice charity drive. Using IndieGoGo's Generosity, players can donate under the name of their chosen fighting game, with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish International children's foundation. The game with the most donations gets the final slot and becomes the first game of the Finals on Sunday.

The list of Player's Choice games is as follows:

  • Pokken Tournament
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
  • Killer Instinct
  • ARMS
  • Windjammers
  • Skullgirls
  • Mortal Kombat XL
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Nidhogg

As of this writing, Pokken Tournament is winning the race, with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 close behind and Killer Instinct taking third place. That's a late surge for the Namco Bandai developed Pokemon fighter, as the early contenders only included Ultimate MvC 3 and Killer Instinct. Voting closes on Wednesday, February 8th.

If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
