A new Fable game might be coming to the Xbox One from Playground Games. Over on Axe of the Blood God, Kat and I talked about what we'd like to see from a new title in the series, should one arise.
Turns out someone else has an opinion on what the new Fable game ought to be like: Series creator Peter Molyneux, who shared his wishlist with IGN recently.
"The Fable story hinted at a dramatic time before Fable 1 when the Guild was founded, this would be a perfect setting for Fable 4," Molyneux said. He also notes this "prequel" setting means "the land of Albion would be much more primitive, the magic much more attuned to nature, the combat much more brutal."
Other ideas from Molyneux include a magic-crafting system, and the ability to befriend an animal familiar like a cat, a dog, a bird, or a goldfish (I'll take the cat, thanks). The familiar would theoretically form a bond with you and assist with spell-casting.
Molyneux would also like to see a robust bestiary, as well as formidable ride-on creatures like dragons. Finally, he believes the player's alignment should morph according to their actions—so players who follow a code of honor might become a knight, while a sneakier player might become a thief.
Playground Games' supposed Fable title is a wish in the wind right now; nothing's been confirmed. But if you are working on a new Fable, Playground, well, Molyneux has some ideas for you. Dig in.
