Fallout 76's Nuclear Winter Brings Battle Royale to the Wasteland

The online-only Fallout 76 jumps onto the trend.

Tonight during its E3 Press event, Bethesda Softworks announced further new features coming Fallout 76. In addition to the massive Wastelanders update, Fallout 76 will be getting a brand-new Battle Royale PVP mode.

In Nuclear Winter, 52 players will fight each other for the chance to claim the role of Overseer of Vault 51. The mode seems to have the standard shrinking battlefield, this time represented by a huge wall of nuclear fire. Weapons look to be contained in random Vault-Tec crates, and Power Armor is also along for the ride. Not only will players have to contend with each other, they'll also be fighting the mutated monsters of Virginia's wasteland. C.A.M.P. building, perks, and nukes are also in Nuclear Winter in some fashion.

"Many of these mechanics have been adjusted to better suit this new gameplay mode and map size, including the stats of your weapons, armor, Chems and more. And while you can carry your Adventure Mode character into Nuclear Winter, their level doesn’t affect how much damage you can inflict or receive. Everyone starts each match on an even playing field. You raise your damage output and increase defensives by tracking down weapons and armor as the match progresses," says Bethesda in the Nuclear Winter announcement page.

Fallout 76 will have a free trial week from June 10-17, during which there will be a Nuclear Winter sneak peek. This is beginning of Bethesda's make good plan, and together, Nuclear Winter and Wastelanders might be exactly what Fallout 76 needs to reach its potential.
