The first gameplay of the upcoming Fast & Furious game, Crossroads, premiered today alongside a new release date. Crossroads will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on August 27, 2020.
The new Fast & Furious adaptation was unveiled at The Game Awards 2019 last December. But after the delay of the ninth Fast & Furious movie due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, Crossroads' original May 29 release date was "uncertain", a representative from publisher Bandai Namco told USgamer.
Now, Fast & Furious Crossroads looks set to launch in August, and even has some gameplay to show for it. It looks eerily reminiscent of the PS2-era Spyhunter game, complete with plenty of gadgets for taking out other vehicles. Whether that's exciting or disappointing for you, either way, it certainly does look like a Fast & Furious game.
Crossroads will feature a story mode set within the Fast & Furious universe, with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tyrese Gibson appearing in their roles as Dom, Letty, and Roman during the campaign. Also joining the cast are Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) and Asia Kate Dillon (John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum). Alongside the single-player story mode, there will also be a three-way multiplayer mode; Bandai Namco says in a press release that more info is coming on how that multiplayer will work in the future.
The film series has popped up in video games now and then, from its own adaptations to a pretty solid Forza Horizon 2 tie-in. With its own game on the market rather than DLC, the crew will get its own spotlight to shine again. Just remember, it's all about family.
