FIFA 19 on Switch Will Have Improved Visuals, but Won't Run on Frostbite

But don't count Frostbite on Switch out just yet.

Don't worry soccer fans, FIFA 19 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch again, and with vastly improved graphics according to series supervising producer Andrei Lazarescu.

Speaking with FIFA fan site Dream Team FC, Lazarescu says that FIFA 19 on the Switch will be running on a custom engine again, but with big improvements. "The intent was never to have a one-off custom engine that we're never going to touch again," said Lazarescu. "It was to have that as a baseline and then build from there."

FIFA 18 on Switch

This means that once again FIFA on the Switch will be ignoring the Frostbite engine the other console versions of FIFA will presumably run on. But this doesn't mean we'll never see Frostbite on the Switch ever. "I'm not closing the door on that possibility. However, we didn't want to create a dumbed-down version of the Frostbite engine," explained Lazarescu.

FIFA 19 hasn't been officially announced yet, but we know that the game will probably be coming sometime this year. While there are no specific details, a lot of new content could come to FIFA 19, including a possible deal with UEFA after its 10 year deal with Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer ended this year.

Right now, EA is busy with FIFA 18's free World Cup update which coincides with the actual World Cup in Russia this year. While the World Cup update had some launch issues, you can still check out our FIFA 18 World Cup guide for the latest breakdowns of new content and Ultimate Team.
