Final Fantasy 14 Players Host Memorial Procession For Player Who Died of COVID-19

Final Fantasy 14 Players Host Memorial Procession For Player Who Died of COVID-19

A march to remember them by.

Dozens of Final Fantasy 14 players gathered on April 11, 2020 to march from Ul'duh to the Guardian Tree. The procession was a memorial for a fellow player who recently died following a battle with COVID-19, and so members of their Free Company and other players gathered to honor them in-game.

After learning of their fellow player's death, Final Fantasy 14 players gathered together to honor them in a display that ended up being massive. The view distance in-game reportedly couldn't handle the turnout of warriors who showed up. Footage was recorded and, soon after, shared on forums like Reddit and Twitter.

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt in just about every aspect of daily life. From social distancing and remote working to delays, including hiccups for Final Fantasy 14's next patch, everything has been thrown into some level of disarray. The games industry has seen losses as well, like Rick May, the voice of Team Fortress 2's Solider and Star Fox 64's Peppy.

It is heartwarming to see so many players band together online and remember their own in this way, though. So many of them turning out in such great numbers is inspiring, and a positive reflection on the community—for both those in the server, and Final Fantasy 14 at large. As we get through the day-to-day of this, I hope we can keep banding together like this, as a reminder that we're all working together to get through it.
