Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers - Where to Unlock All the New Content

Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers - Where to Unlock All the New Content

Now that you've pick up Shadowbringers, where do you go to unlock all the cool stuff?

Final Fantasy 14's latest expansion is here, with players having torn into the main scenario over the past two weeks. Many players have reached the current level cap of 80, but you might not know where to go next. If you're all about Hunts, where do you go to kick off the new Hunts? What about doing your level 80 job quests? You can't get down to that endgame grind if you don't know where to go. There's a lot of Aetheryte shuffling and travel needed to unlock everything at level 80, but we're here to help. Here's a list clear and concise list of all the quests and locations needed for your chosen content.

Where to Unlock All the New Level 70 Content

Before we get into the level 80 content, you might also need some help starting Shadowbringers for the very first time. Here's a few quests you need to pick up in role to get yourself started.

Main Scenario

"The Syrcus Trench" from Tataru (Mor Dhona: 6.0, 5.9). You need to have complete all of the main scenario quest up until this point, with the previous quest being Patch 4.56's "A Requiem for Heroes".

Disciples of the Land, Disciples of the Hand

"The Crystalline Mean" from Katliss (The Crystarium: 11.0, 8.5). This only unlocks once you complete the Shadowbringers main scenario quest "The Crystarium's Resolve".

"Nuts to You" from Hume Lout (The Crystarium: 12.1, 15.0). To receive the quest, you have to unlock the previous Clan Hunts, via the quest "Elite and Dangerous". You do not need to have finished all of the higher-level Hunts from the Stormblood expansion. The quest will send you to talk to Halldor (The Crystarium: 9.4, 9.4), who will actually offer you the rest of the Hunt quests as you level up.

Striking Dummies (Stone, Sky, and Sea)

Sometimes it's worthwhile to be able to practice your attacks on a target that doesn't hit back. To unlock striking dummies in The First, you need to first have finished the level 60 quest "A Striking Opportunity" (from the Boisterous Bruiser in Idyllshire: 7.3, 6.0) and the level 70 quest "Another Striking Opportunity" (from Starry-eyed Ala Mhigan in Rhalgr's Reach: 12.3, 13.1). Having done so will give you access to "Yet Another Striking Opportunity" from the Weary Dockworker (Eulmore: 9.2, 9.9).

Where to Unlock the New Role Quests

If you're wondering where to initially unlock the new jobs, Gunbreaker and Dancer, you can check out our other guide on that topic. This section will cover the role quests, which is a chain of quests coming every two levels from 70 to 80, based on your role (Tank, Healer, Physical DPS, Magic DPS). One of these chains need to be finished in order to complete Shadowbringers' main scenario, and actually provide further story highlights. The starting quests in these role stories will only unlock once you complete the main scenario quest "Warrior of Darkness", at level 71, after visiting Kholusia and Amh Araeng.

Role: Tank (Warrior, Paladin, Dark Knight, and Gunbreaker)

"The Man with Too Many Scars" from Granson (The Crystarium: 10.5, 16.2). This chain ends with the quest "To Have Loved and Lost".

Role: Healer (White Mage, Astrologian, and Scholar)

"Traditions and Travails" from Giott (The Crystarium: 10.7, 15.4). This chain ends with the quest "The Soul of Temperance".

Role: Physical DPS (Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai, Bard, Machinist, Dancer)

"No Greater Sport" from Lue-Reeq (The Crystarium: 10.8, 15.9). This chain ends with the quest "Courage Born of Fear".

Role: Magical DPS (Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage

"Hollow Pursuits" from Cerigg (The Crystarium: 11.2, 15.2). This chain ends with the quest "A Tearful Reunion".

Where to Unlock the Level 80 Expert Dungeons

Once you've finished off the main scenario of Shadowbringers, you're not entirely done with the expansion itself. There's an Expert dungeon roulette that's still waiting to be filled out. You'll get one of the dungeons, Amaurot, for finishing the main scenario. There's still another two dungeons that are outside the confines of the main story though.

How to Unlock The Twinning

The first dungeon is called the Twinning. A Crystarium guard named Bethana (The Crystarium: 9.2, 11.2) wants you help exploring the hallways of the Crystal Tower itself. The quest she gives is called "By the Time You Hear This". Accept it and it'll unlock the Twinning in your Duty Finder.

How to Unlock Akadaemia Anyder

The second dungeon require a little bit more work than the first, but it's still pretty simple. Over in the slums of Eulmore, you'll find a character called the Overwrought Ondo (Eulmore/The Derelicts: 12.9, 12.4). The fish man will offer you the quest "Akadaemia Anyder," which is also coincidentally the name of the dungeon. There's a vicious beast that's threatening his people, and only you can help.

His pleas will send you to the Bureau of the Administrator, in the ancient city of Amaurot. There an Administrative Clerk (The Tempest: 21.4, 26.8) will tell you that the beast likely came from Akadaemia Anyder, and point you in the direction of an academic. Talking to the Akadaemia Academic (The Tempest: 20.0, 33.0) will open the dungeon itself in your Duty Finder.

All three dungeons will give you a leg up on grinding out those Tomestones of Goetia.

How to Unlock the Extreme Trials

Another fairly large part of endgame is fighting the harder, Extreme versions of existing Trials. Once you've completed the main scenario of Shadowbringers, you can open up these hard encounters. Much like previous Extreme Trials, there's a specific Minstrel that you'll want to seek out.

Over in the Crystarium, there stands a Minstreling Wanderer (The Crystarium: 7.5, 12.5), another version of the Wandering Minstrel. He'll offer you the quest "Minstrel from Another Mother," which will open Duty Finder access to The Dancing Plague (Extreme) and The Crown of the Immaculate (Extreme), which are the respective Extreme Trials for Titania and Innocence. And if you need help beating those Trials, you can check out our guides for The Dancing Plague and The Crown of the Immaculate, which cover the normal and Extreme editions.
