Final Fantasy 15 Novel Reveals the Plot, Concept Art for Canceled DLC
Here's how the canceled DLC would've played out.
A newly released official Final Fantasy 15 novel delves into what was supposed to be the plot for the 2019 story DLCs before Square Enix canceled them. This includes the events that would've taken place had Episode Luna, Episode Aranea, and Episode Noctis been completed.
Twitter user @FFplanet scanned some concept art from the Final Fantasy 15 -The Dawn of Future- artbook, which ties into a novel of the same name. Written by Square Enix writer Emi Nagashima, The Dawn of the Future novel was released last week and tells the story of Lunafreya's revival, and the final battle against Bahamut.

According to @FFPlanet, the concept art they posted shows four scenes from the planned DLC. The first is Lunafreya's revival, along with the powers of daemon. The second is a scene from the final battle with Bahamut where the players must alternate between Noctis, Luna, Aranea, and Ardyn. The third shows Noctis' reunion with Luna, while the final two are of Ardyn's funeral and Noctis in the future with his children.
Final Fantasy 15 was developed by Luminous Productions, a new studio founded under Square Enix by FF15 director Hajime Tabata. In 2018, it was announced that a new slate of FF15 DLC would be released in 2019. However, Tabata left Square Enix and Luminous to open his own studio, and Square Enix canceled the remaining DLC. Only Episode Ardyn was released, and Square Enix has since moved Luminous off of FF15 and onto an unannounced next-gen title.
Although work on FF15 has concluded, Square Enix is moving onto new projects, one of them likely to be Final Fantasy 16. The only question is who could be developing it, as it's been announced that Final Fantasy 14's director Naoki Yoshida is also working on a new next-gen title for Square Enix.
An English translation for The Dawn of Future has been announced, so North American fans looking for a conclusion to the FF15 saga are in luck.
