Over in Japan, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is selling exceptionally well. So well, in fact, that it's outpacing sales of Final Fantasy 15 across both game's first three weeks on sale.
These figures come from a new Famitsu report, which has Final Fantasy 7 Remake currently sitting at 839, 074 units sold in three weeks. This would normally be pretty impressive, but doubly so during a worldwide pandemic which has reduced physical stock of games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as well as remake being a single-platform game.
You'd think a multi-platform game like Final Fantasy 15 would naturally outsell Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but the remake has actually outpaced sales in Japan. After three weeks on the market back in November 2016, Final Fantasy 15 had sold 814,603 units, over 25,000 less than the remake.
This is a really strong indicator for Final Fantasy 7 Remake sales. You'd naturally expect the return of such a beloved game across generations to sell really well, but Final Fantasy 15 was an astounding worldwide success for Square Enix when it launched back in 2017, shipping upwards of five million units in the first day of launch, making it Square Enix's most successful launch game ever. For Final Fantasy 7 Remake to compare favorably to 15's sales is a great result.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been a difficult game to parse, but Kat did an excellent job of it in her review. While she wasn't too hot on the remake at launch, the further Kat gets from having played the game, the more she likes it.
