Final Fantasy VII Remake Reportedly Redesigned Cloud's Character

An art exhibit in Tokyo unveiled a new Cloud.

As part of the Final Fantasy "Farewell Stories" 30th Anniversary Exhibition currently operating at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo, Square Enix unveiled four in-development screenshots of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, never-before-seen. While the screenshots were only viewable by people physically attending the event, reports from Twitter suggests characters like Cloud got some noticeable redesigns.

Cloud redesigned for Super Smash Bros.

While it's not like Cloud looks completely different from what fans have come to expect over the years, social media reports that Final Fantasy VII Remake development lead Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the new designs were some time in the making. The dev team apparently "finally got the OK from [original character designer and director Tetsuya] Nomura." In fact, Nomura apparently went and said that the final redesigns were "the closest to the original [design] among those created so far."

Eyewitness accounts of these new designs don't reveal any specifics, other than Cloud has been remade, and has an "immaturity suitable for his age," while Briggs is now "super handsome." Wege is also chubby in a refreshing way, and Jessie is cute.

We'll have to wait and see whether these screenshots will be made available to the public so that we may see for ourselves what the redesigned Cloud might look like.

Thanks, Gematsu.
