In the road up to Heavensward, the team behind Final Fantasy XIV revealed that the new reptilian Au Ra race was originally conceived in the form of Final Fantasy XII's Viera. Concept artists - A Realm Reborn and Heavensward shares its main character designer, Akihiko Yoshida, with Final Fantasy XII - had even sketched out a male version of the race. Instead, FFXIV decided to go its own route, but fans have been asking for the Viera ever since.
The upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Stormblood, won't have the Viera either. In an interview with Finder, FFXIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida said that fans shouldn't give up hope on the race.
"I don't think you should give up hope. I mean we're hoping Final Fantasy XIV will have a very long lifespan. With that being said. Fran and the Viera race have a very high heel and trying to depict that in Final Fantasy XIV is challenging. They won't be able to wear any shoes that exist in Eorzea right now," said Yoshida.
One day, bunny ears may be a part of your character. For now, you'll have to settle for the Bunny Crown item from the Gold Saucer.
