Final Fantasy XV Reveals Four More Episode DLCs for 2019

Final Fantasy XV Reveals Four More Episode DLCs for 2019

Episode Luna, custom characters, and a level editor.

At PAX East Square Enix revealed the new content roadmap coming to Final Fantasy XV which largely centered around the PC version of the game. But aside from mods, Square Enix also revealed the remaining Episodes story DLC coming to the game, including the long rumored Luna story DLC.

First, Square Enix announced that there will be two more updates for COmrades, Final Fantasy XV's online multiplayer mode with the surprisingly rich character customization toolbox. The first update will come this summer alongside the stand-alone version of Comrades while the second big update is expected sometime this winter.

Square Enix also detailed the four Episode story DLCs for Final Fantasy XV. These are the story-driven DLC that explore stories set in Final Fantasy XV through the perspective of one of the other characters. The first year of Story DLCs focused on Noctis' entourage, but 2019's episode list expands the character roster. The four episodes slated for 2019 are:

  • Episode I: Ardyn - "The Conflict of the Sage"
  • The DLC follows Ardyn and 2,000 year old resentment towards Luctis, and his fight with the Astrals.
  • Episode Side Story: Aranea - "The Beginning of the End"
  • A smaller episode that focuses on Aranea Highwind of the Niflheim Empire and the Starscourge disease. "The final day of the Empire turns out to be Aranea's worst day," writes Square Enix.
  • Episode II: Lunafreya - "The Choice of Freedom"
  • The story that finally stars Luna as she faces her "fate," which not even death can free her from. She battles to save the one she loves and overturns the destiny of the Lucian King.
  • Episode III: Notics - "The Final Strike"
  • After leaving the Astrals, Noctis goes on his final battle for the ideal future for all his people.
  • Grand Alternate Finale - an alternate finale planned as the last of the four Episode DLCs.

Square Enix also revealed that players on the PC version will be getting an even deeper editing suite, including the option to create their own protagonist as well as a level editor for later this year. Square Enix even showed off a golf game built using the editor.

Final Fantasy XV was pretty well received when it first came out. Our Final Fantasy XV review gave it a 4 out of 5. However, when our team debated the merits of Final Fantasy XV, we were evenly split between those who liked the game and those who didn't, with one staff member abstaining due to not having played it.

Final Fantasy XV's new post-launch content should be arriving between the summer of 2018 and next year. Keep checking back with us for all the latest updates. Also be sure to check out our complete Final Fantasy XV guide.
