Fortnite Battle Royale Introduces a New 50 Versus 50 Mode
Last team standing wins.
At tonight's Game Awards Epic Games announced a new game mode for Fortnite Battle Royale. It's called "50 Versus 50" and it is exactly what it says on the tin.
In 50 Versus 50, players are divided up into two, massive 50-player teams and must battle it out in a last-team standing war. This is unlike the standard, last-one-standing Battle Royale mode popularized by games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
Here is a trailer detailing the new mode.
In other news, Fortnite Battle Royale has been a massive success for Epic Games. After a lackluster launch of the Fortnite base game, Epic announced a Battle Royale spinoff that was met with some hesitation as it seemed like a quick way to capitalize on the sudden popularity of games like PUBG. Not to mention the fact that it divided the Fortnite community between Battle Royale players and standard Fortnite players.
Still, it's hard to argue with the results. Fortnite Battle Royale has reached 1.3 million concurrent users and has gained over 30 million players since its July launch. Fortnite Battle Royale is also gaining on PUBG as one of Twitch's most popular streaming games.
