Friday the 13th: The Game is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch this Spring in a brand new "Ultimate Slasher Switch Edition." Developer Gun Media confirmed the news with a new picture showing Jason Vorhees playing on a Switch.
The Ultimate Slasher Switch Edition will include the base game and all the paid DLC. This includes every Jason Kill Pack, Counselor Clothing Packs, and the Emote Party Pack. Unfortunately, the "Savini Jason" character, which was a Kickstarter exclusive, will not be included. Variety received the exclusive reveal earlier today.
Friday the 13th: The Game was funded successfully on Kickstarter and was released in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In 2018, developer Gun Media went into a legal dispute with Friday the 13th's original screenwriter Victor Miller over the rights to the character. Following the dispute, Gun Media confirmed it is unable to add any new characters, updates, or additions to Friday the 13th: The Game.
Instead, Gun Media can only focus on Friday the 13th's general maintenence, including server upkeep and bug fixes. Which is why you won't see any new content added in the Switch version. Instead, Gun Media's Daniel Nixon says of the Switch release, "The Nintendo Switch offers a unique experience, in both social settings and on the go, that we feel work very well with 'Friday the 13th: The Game."
Luckily, Friday the 13th: The Game is great as is. It's an asymmetrical multiplayer game where one player takes on the role of Jason, and the others play as Camp Crystal Lake counselors. The Jason player has all sorts of physical and supernatural powers, which gives him an edge. But the counselor characters can hide or work together, making them more powerful if they utilize team work.
Friday the 13th was last included as a free PS Plus game in October 2018 to celebrate Halloween. No firm release date was announced, except for a Spring launch window.
