11 Bit Studios, the developers behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk, shared at a private EA Play event today that it was bringing Frostpunk and Moonlighter (which it published) to EA Origin Access, EA's subscription game service akin to Xbox Game Pass.
Piotr Bajraszewski, business development manager with 11 Bit Studios, says there's a lot of positives that come with putting its games on a subscription platform. Players, he outlines, are more likely to take a chance on a game they wouldn't otherwise play; like how different Frostpunk was compared to the studio's huge success This War of Mine made it harder to pitch to the millions of players who bought the latter game. On EA Origin Access, they might be willing to try it though.
In bringing Frostpunk and Moonlighter to EA Origin Access, Bajraszewski hopes new players will enjoy the game, "and then maybe buy later on Switch." (At least for the latter, as Frostpunk remains a PC exclusive, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports due this fall.)
"Half the people who owned Frostpunk finished it," says Bajraszewski of the 1.4 million copies sold of Frostpunk since its release in April 2018. Soon, even more will get a chance to play Frostpunk when it hits EA Origin Access, alongside Moonlighter, later this year. EA Origin Access now has over 200 games from 85 developers.
