Gearbox Is Teasing Another Game That... Isn't Borderlands 3?

Gearbox may have more than one surprise in store for PAX East.

Gearbox is seemingly bringing out the big guns at PAX East in just a couple of weeks. Already the developer has teased an image that looks an awful lot like it belongs in the Borderlands universe. Today, Gearbox took to Twitter to tease something else entirely. Or so they say.

"Time to tease another game for PAX!" the developer's tweet reads. The image is of a robot, seemingly, torn apart on a medical bed. The first thing I thought of in seeing the teaser image was SOMA, with maybe a dash of BioShock thrown in. Regardless, it certainly doesn't look like Borderlands, contrary to the digital freeway sign with the date of Gearbox's big upcoming panel.

Borderlands 3 has long been rumored. Last year, Take-Two even talked about having to delay a major release into 2020, with many thinking it was talking about a new Borderlands game. Since Battleborn fumbled (going up against a fresh and new Overwatch didn't help), Gearbox has been relatively quiet. Most recently, it had its hand in publishing the not-great We Happy Few from Compulsion Games, who were recently acquired by Microsoft.

Whatever else Gearbox has hiding, it's likely to be a new internally developed game, and maybe some surprise publishing announcements too. It won't be super long until we find out whatever this image and the one teased before are, as Gearbox is holding its big panel on March 28 at PAX East.

Disclosure: USG is part of the Gamer Network, which is owned by ReedPOP, the organizers of the PAX events including PAX East.
