Gears 5 Fans Think They've Spotted Unannounced Story DLC

New footage comes from Microsoft Game Stack.

Just yesterday, Microsoft Game Stack's YouTube channel uploaded a small video concerning The Coalition, the studio behind the Gears of War franchise. A brief snippet of the video appears to show new Gears 5 footage, which some fans think points toward new DLC.

You can see the complete video from Microsoft Game Stack just below. At right around the 2:12 mark, you can see three members of the Hivebusters squad: Lahni, Mac, and Keegan standing around together in what appears to be a snippet from a cutscene.

Typically, these three characters feature exclusively in the Escape multiplayer mode of Gears 5, which sees a small team racing against time to make it through a gauntlet before they're locked in forever. As users of the Gears of War subreddit have noticed, the screen that shows the trio doesn't look anything like any of the current Escape maps we have access to.

If you're unfamiliar with the Hivebusters, they're an elite company led by Colonel Hoffman. The wizened Gears veteran last showed up in Gears of War 4, leading a settlement of the Hivebusters against the evil Swarm. Here's hoping that if this is new DLC as the Gears community is hoping, Hoffman makes a return in some capacity.

Currently, there's no story DLC planned or announced for Gears 5 from The Coalition. The studio is focused purely on new multiplayer content, with the next seasonal Operation event set to be revealed witin the coming few days.
