Gears 5 is evening out the input options across platforms. Those who pick up the third-person shooter on Xbox One will be able to hook up a mouse and keyboard for input, one Gears 5 dev confirmed in a stream on Tuesday.
While playing through some matches live on Twitch, multiplayer design director Ryan Cleven mentioned that Gears 5 will have a mouse and keyboard option available on consoles. So yes, those folks hoping to use WASD on the Xbox will be able to do so across Gears' various modes.
Xbox One has supported mouse and keyboard for a number of games already, including Warframe and Fortnite. Having this option for console players makes sense, especially considering it will also be a cross-play game for PC and console. Giving both sides the same tools seems like the right thing to do. I've always been a bit more of a controller fan for Gears' style of play though, so I don't really see myself using it. Also, hooking a keyboard and mouse up to my console seems a bit arduous.
Gears 5 is coming September 10, though you can jump in four days early if you're an Xbox Game Pass holder. It's going to ditch the season pass for a battle pass model, so you'll be able to earn all those cosmetics while duking it out in the arena and play every map free. We'll see whether the mouse users or the controllers end up dominating those maps or not come September.
