Gears 5's Campaign Will Bring Back Some Familiar Faces

The boys are back in town.

A new look at Gears 5's campaign takes us inside the head of new series lead Kait Diaz, and the war going on inside her head. As the Swarm descends upon humanity, Kait heads off across Sera to discover more about her origin and the truth behind it.

Kait's inheritance, as the granddaughter of the Locust Queen, seems to play a much greater role in the story this time around. The war within her blood might see her loyalty start to waver. But the real star of the trailer is one beautiful returning face. The Cole Train is back, y'all!

This looks like a Gears of War campaign through and through, right down to the muscle-bound dude who's wearing a labcoat, so you know he's a scientist. But if it leans a little more into the cast and its quirks in a Fast and Furious kind of way, while building on the story within the Fenix family and Kait's heritage, this could be a pretty solid campaign all around. It is 2019, and I'm hoping for more narrative in a Gears campaign.

The Coalition also debuted some other Gears 5 tidbits today. There's a new trailer for its Horde mode that packs in some Overwatch-style Ultimates, and a surprising Halo: Reach crossover that puts Spartans up against Locust. Aside from the Master Chief Collection, it's nice to see the awesome Spartans of Noble Team pop up in other games. I'm definitely going to play a Horde round or two as Emile.
