Get Burned, Frozen, and Thrown off a Train in Apex Legends’ Season 3 Map
The Apex Games are leaving Kings Canyon.
All the developers hints, datamining, and fan speculation in the lead-up to the third season of Apex Legends have paid off. As fans deduced, Respawn Entertainment is introducing a brand new map, World's Edge, to its battle royale on October 1. Set on an entirely different planet, the new map looks like it'll also be worlds apart from Kings Canyon in terms of geography and environmental features.
The build-up to the World's Edge announcement started with a few weeks ago with the appearance of some mysterious progress bars in Kings Canyon. Fans thought these hints would herald the reveal of Crypto, Season 3's new hacker Legend, but his first appearance came and went as the progress bars spread to the Apex Legends Twitter account. There, fans began analyzing the bits of lore in Respawn's tweets and started to suspect the real pay-off: a brand new map.
From the Season 3 launch trailer, it looks like this new home of the Apex Games is quite exposed to the elements. World's Edge is on the planet Talos, not Lifeline and Octane's homeworld of Psamanthe as many predicted, but its snow and magma-covered terrain matches the setting of a piece of official Lifeline concept art. In addition to all the fire and ice, it looks like parts of World's Edge will also be a bit more hospitable (we see Octane leap off a jump pad and catch a boost off of an active geyser) and even developed for habitation (poor Pathfinder gets sniped in what looks like a small town).
The most intriguing feature of World's Edge, a moving train, is teased at the end of the trailer. It's loaded with Apex's distinctive red-and-white supply bins, which could suggest it's a high value loot area similar to the floating supply ships from Kings Canyon. You have to imagine we're going to see a lot of clips of people getting punched off the train or frantically grappling it as Pathfinder for a quick escape once Season 3 starts.
Respawn hasn't released full update notes for Season 3, so it's unclear whether World's Edge will completely replace Kings Canyon or if Apex's original locale will remain playable in some form. We have heard about a long list of changes coming to Apex's Ranked mode in Season 3, and for even more information you can check out USG's Apex Legends Season 3 guide.
