God of War Had One of the Best Launches for a PlayStation Exclusive Ever

PlayStation and God of War dominated April according to NPD.

To say Sony and PlayStation had a good month would be an understatement. Thanks in no small part by the success of God of War, the PlayStation 4 had the best, all-time software dollar sales of any April since the NPD first started tracking the industry in 1995.

It might honestly just be easier to list PlayStation's achievements for April than keep mentioning how good PlayStation had it this month. God of War, which came out on the last week of April, was the best-selling game of the month. It also had the all-time highest ever launch month dollar sales for any exclusive on the PlayStation. Not just for the PS4, but any PlayStation console ever.

In terms of hardware, the PS4 was the best-selling console of the month, beating both the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The PS4 also generated the highest April unit sales for a console since the Nintendo Wii back in April 2008. The PS4 Pro God of War bundle was the best-selling single piece of hardware for that month, proving just how much people wanted to get their hands on Kratos' latest adventure.

God of War 2018

So yeah, people really wanted God of War. No surprise either, considering our God of War review awarded the game a perfect score. Ubisoft remains the best-selling publisher of the year so far thanks to Far Cry 5. In a pleasant surprise the Nintendo Labo Variety Pack charted as the fourth best-selling game of April, while the more expensive Robot Kit landed in 21st place.
