The terrors of your childhood are set to return. Goosebumps Dead of Night, a video game based on R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series, is coming this summer to PS4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch.
In Dead of Night, the player has to discover and recollect the pages of various Goosebumps tales that have been stolen by Slappy the Dummy. All the while, the tales keep coming to life, resulting in a lot of sneaking, hiding, and sometimes blasting massive gummy bears with lightning.
Allies will help along the way, including R.L. Stine as voiced by Jack Black. Solve puzzles and avoid monsters, all while trying to thwart Slappy. While trying not to remember all the nightmares that Goosebumps gave you as a kid.
While most horror games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent push into the M-rated category, Goosebumps Dead of Night is set to be a horror game that's currently rated E10+. Much like the book series that inspired it, Dead of Night seems to be a kid-friendly horror experience, which depending on how well it's handled could be a boon.
A press release does confirm that Goosebumps Dead of Night will, indeed, have jumpscares. At least that art of horror game design carries over, even into the slightly less graphic world of Goosebumps. Only a summer 2020 window has been set at the moment for Goosebumps Dead of Night, but we'll see if this can still scare the living daylights out of us when it goes live.
