Gotta Go Fast: Summer Games Done Quick 2016 is On

From now through July 9, watch speedrunners blaze through your favorite games in the name of charity.

It's summertime in the Northern Hemisphere. That means sun, swimming pools, barbeques, and grooving along with an inner instinct to take things easy. The speed warriors over at Summer Games Done Quick won't hear of slowing down, though. Their mission is to blaze through games as quickly as possible, all in the name of charity.

Yes, it's time for the warmer half of the bi-yearly Games Done Quick marathon. From now through Saturday June 9, tune in Games Done Quick's Twitch channel to watch the crew's talented passel of speed wizards do their thing with dozens of games across a multitude of genres.

On tap this year: Super Mario RPG shenanigans

If you have a few bucks, consider donating to the event's cause, Doctors Without Borders. And definitely check out Bob's cover piece on Summer Games Done Quick, wherein he talks to its organizers and gets an inside look at what goes into running such a spectacle.

The schedule for Summer Games Done Quick is also live, so take a peek and see if anything interests you. Just in case, y'know, you need an opportunity to sneak away from your annually-mandated family reunion and recharge for a bit. This year's "showpiece game" is Super Mario RPG, which LackAttack24 is speedrunning on July 9 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.

To the participants of Summer Games Done Quick: Have fun, good luck, and don't Sketch any Intangirs (unless that's part of the plan).
